THE EXPERIENCE
Kies Family Wines is a dog friendly winery in Baross aValley. The 6th generation family and staff will make you feel like you’re part of the family with knowledge and passion for the wines. Indulge in a feast in the Monkey Nut Café, then relax with a tea from Kies Teas. We love to laugh and we want people to feel comfortable and enjoy their time in our cellar door.
THE WINE
The Kies family have been growing grapes in the beautiful Barossa Valley for six generations and the quality of the Kies Family wine range reflects this depth of knowledge. Our award winning wine range spans light, fruit driven whites, full bodied reds and a selection of fortifieds. Our winemaker Bronson Kies completed his University degree in Oenology and Viticulture, before undertaking his training at some of South Australia’s most iconic wineries.
His passion for the regional flagship Shiraz has driven him to create a portfolio showcasing the many different winemaking styles available. This includes a Sparkling Shiraz Rosè and an unoaked, fruity and chillable Shiraz, right through to the most Premium iteration, The Guardian Shiraz.
Some of the vines which are more than 80 years old have been lovingly cared for by Michael Kies to produce the high quality fruit which results in our premium quality wines. So much so that Michael knows each vine by hand. Kies Wines are produced entirely from our own vineyard and each variety is carefully tended to, right through the winemaking process. Come and try them… you will not be disappointed.
TASTING
From new wine drinkers, to the more experienced, we will welcome you with open arms and a good taste of our huge range of wines. There is something for everyone; from a dry Riesling to a Sparkling Rosé, lighter style red, right through to a big Barossa red, sweet wine or a Fortified.
ABOUT US
Tina and Michael opened the cellar door in 1985. Tina remembers the opening well, “it really was just a run down little cottage, once used as a Chaff Mill…” The little cottage was subsequently renovated, with the help of family and opened in January 1985. The day of the opening was stinking hot (40°c) and there was no air–conditioning; to top it all off Tina was pregnant and nearly due with Bronson, her eldest son…” From 1985 the Kies Family Wines philosophy was “not to get bigger just get better”. Our focus has always been on “quality not quantity”. This is why we keep our wine production small so as to keep the quality and its distinctive varietal characters.
